How to Transfer Data on MTN using USSD/Shortcode

For You to transfer or share from your existing Data Balance with your friends and family, kindly, dial *131*reciepient phone number* Data amount#.
For instance, let’s say you want to transfer 500MB to 080312233456, to ensure your data transfer is successful, dial *131*080312233456*500#.
Please make sure you check the number carefully before dialing the above code because it’s automatic and you won’t be asked to confirm it.

How to Transfer Data on MTN Using SMS Method.

If you are SMS method. simply, do this, send an SMS containing the following command: Transfer<space>Phone number<space>Data amount and to 131.
For instance: let’s say you want to transfer 500MB to 080312233456, the right way to do this via SMS is this. Transfer 080312233456 500 and send it to 131.

How to Buy Data for a Friend.

You can also easily buy data for a friend. You can buy a specific bundle for a friend and the amount will be charged from your airtime. Simply dial *131*Bundle Activation Code*Beneficiary’s Phone number# and send it.

MTN Data Transfer Frequently Asked Questions.

How do I transfer the MTN Data bonus?

It’s impossible to transfer a data bonus on MTN data share. You can only transfer data to another MTN user from your main Data balance.

What is the code for sharing data on MTN?

The code for sharing data on MTN is *131*7#.

Will I require a PIN to use MTN’s Gift Data service?

No. Unlike the MTN airtime transfer, there’s no PIN required to transfer or gift data. You only need to enter your beneficiary’s phone number and choose a data plan to use the service.

How many times can I transfer data in a day?

The maximum number of times you can transfer is twice daily.

What’s the maximum amount of data I can transfer at a time?

The amount of data you can transfer at a time is 10MB, 50MB, 100MB, and 500 MB. However, it’s mandatory that you have at least 50MB in your data balance after every transfer before your transfer will be successful.

How many times can I send a request for data?

To curb spam or disturbance, you can only send a maximum of 5 data requests per day. However, you can receive data requests from different numbers without limit.

Will MTN charge me an additional cost for using MTN’s Gift Data service?

No! As I earlier disclosed, this service is 100% free. However, if you’re buying data for a friend, you will only be charged the price of the data plan you’re buying.
